What is it?

...and what to expect.

Pelvic floor physiotherapy is physiotherapy that addresses issues regarding the pelvic floor (simply put: your vaginal and rectal muscles) and related structures. It aims to address intimate concerns that can greatly affect your quality-of-life and well-being, such as the issues listed above.

The assessment and treatmentments are typically intra-vaginal and/or intra-rectal so that the physiotherapist can gauge the sensitivity of your tissues as well as properly assess the strength and function of your pelvic floor muscles. These are performed in a private, locked room, and the patient is provided with proper draping. Intimate questions will also be asked to gain a thorough understanding, so please inform the physiotherapist if there are any topics you wish to avoid.

Note that the internal portion would only be performed if consent is provided. If you are uncomfortable with the internal portion, it is certainly not mandatory-there are always external treatment methods that can be utilized as well.
