About Birth Preparation

Preparing for Birth: Feel Confident & In Control

Childbirth—especially your first—can feel overwhelming. Our birth preparation sessions are designed to help you feel informed, prepared, and confident as you approach labour and delivery.

We provide education on what to expect during labour and delivery, along with strategies and exercises to reduce birth injuries and trauma. By learning how to support your body through movement, breathing, and positioning, you can approach birth feeling empowered and ready.

These sessions are typically the final step when working with our prenatal clients, but they are also beneficial if you have not yet had pelvic floor physiotherapy.

No prior sessions are required to benefit from birth preparation!

Birth Preparation Overview

Session 1 (Gestational Week 34 or 35)

  • Review perineal massage & stretching techniques

  • Go over breathing strategies

Session 1 can be attended solo or with your birth partner if he or she plans to assist with the perineal massage.

Session 2 (Gestation Week 36)

  • Review labour & delivery positions that can help minimize pain

  • General information and Q&A

We recommend your birth partner attend this session so they can be familiar with these strategies as well.

Booking Details

We recommend booking a Pelvic Floor 30 Minute Follow-Up at week 35 of gestation, then a Pelvic Floor 45 Minute Follow-Up with your birth partner (optional) at week 36.

However, if you have not already been seeing us for Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy before this, please book a Pelvic Floor Initial Assessment for the first session.

Please, feel free to email us if you have any questions.
